The Head of Finance Operations provides leadership across SAGE’s finance operations and commercial finance activities, ensuring the organisation has the financial insight, governance and operational support required to achieve its strategic and financial objectives.
Position Summary:
Working closely with the CFO, Executive Leaders and operational stakeholders, the role translates financial information into actionable business insights, supports commercial decision-making, and drives accountability for financial performance.
The role oversees financial control, compliance, payroll and finance operations through the Finance and Administration Manager, while partnering closely with the Group Financial Planning and Analysis Manager to support organisational performance, profitability and sustainable growth.
In this role you will:
Partner with Executive and operational leaders to improve financial and commercial performance across the business.
Analyse finance and operational performance and provide recommendations to improve revenue, margin, productivity and profitability.
Monitor key financial and commercial performance indicators and identify emerging risks and opportunities.
Oversee the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, taxation obligations and regulatory requirements.
Review financial results and provide commentary and insights for executive reporting.
Lead finance process improvements and system enhancements, including automation opportunities.
Maintain accountability for the finance and administration function through the Finance and Administration Manager.
Ensure effective delivery of financial accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and administration services.
Monitor service delivery standards, financial controls and operational performance within the finance function.
Provide commercial insight on working capital, revenue performance, project profitability and cost management.
Oversee internal control frameworks and risk mitigation strategies across financial processes.
Skills and Experience:
We are seeking an accomplished finance professional with strong commercial capability and the credibility and confidence to engage with Executives and Leaders within a complex engineering environment.
You will have the capability to translate project and operational financial information into commercial insights, while retaining accountability for corporate finance outcomes, financial governance and finance operations.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
CA/CPA and Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related discipline.
10+ years of senior financial leadership experience including proven experience leading both Financial Management and Group Financial Planning and Analysis functions.
Track record of financial process improvement and systems implementation.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, compliance, budgeting and forecasting.
Experience of building and developing a multi-disciplined finance team.
Skilled in identifying trends across portfolio and translating insights into targeted improvement actions.
Strong understanding of project and service-based financial models.
Experience with pricing, revenue recognition, or commercial performance frameworks.
Experience with financial levers such as margin, WIP, cash flow, and risk to support project and account decisions.
