Graduate Lawyer / Legal Counsel
Exceptional opportunity for a Graduate Lawyer or early-career Legal Counsel with up to 2 years Post-Qualification Experience to join the SAGE Group legal team in Adelaide.
SAGE Group, a Tetra Tech company, unites four specialist businesses – SAGE Automation, Nukon, Skills Lab and Embedded Expertise – to deliver industrial digitalisation solutions across critical industries.
Headquartered in South Australia, our team of over 800 employees spans 2 continents and 18 offices. We’re dedicated to helping clients create smarter, safer, and more sustainable operations, all guided in our purpose: Smarter Future, Better World.
At SAGE Group, we bring innovative thinking and advanced automation capability to critical industrial operators across the Energy, Water, Defence, Transport, Manufacturing and Resources sectors.
We are seeking a Graduate Lawyer or early-career Legal Counsel with up to 2 years Post-Qualification Experience to join the SAGE Group legal team in Adelaide.
Position Summary:
This is an opportunity to commence or develop your legal career in-house, working closely with SAGE Group’s legal team and senior leaders across the business. You will gain broad commercial experience and exposure to significant projects and transactions across Australia.
In this role your work will primarily involve contract and corporate law, including:
reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts;
advising the business on contractual rights, obligations and risk;
assisting with contract negotiations with customers, suppliers and subcontractors;
providing advice on general commercial and corporate matters;
assisting with contractual disputes and claims;
undertaking legal research and preparing practical legal advice;
supporting corporate governance and compliance matters; and
working directly with project managers, engineers and senior management across SAGE Group.
The role provides substantial hands-on experience and responsibility from an early stage, with support and mentoring from experienced in-house lawyers.
Skills and Experience:
We are looking for someone who is intelligent, commercially minded and, importantly, someone who will fit well within the SAGE team.
Ideally, you will have:
recently completed, or be close to completing, a Bachelor of Laws or equivalent, or have up to 2 years’ post-admission experience;
strong academic results, particularly in Contract Law and other commercial law subjects;
a genuine interest in contract and commercial law;
strong written and verbal communication skills;
good attention to detail and an ability to analyse complex contractual issues;
a practical and commercially focused approach to legal problems; and
a friendly, approachable personality and strong interpersonal skills.
Previous experience in a law firm, in-house legal team, clerkship, paralegal position or other legal role will be highly regarded but is not essential.
Join an industry leader:
You will have the opportunity to:
work on major projects across a diverse range of industries;
gain significant exposure to commercial contracts early in your career;
work directly with experienced lawyers and senior business leaders;
develop practical commercial skills that can be difficult to obtain in a traditional graduate role;
join a friendly and collaborative in-house team; and
build your career within SAGE Group while also benefiting from the opportunities available through the broader Tetra Tech global network.
If you are a graduate or early-career lawyer looking for a commercially focused role with genuine responsibility and exposure, we would like to hear from you.
