Senior Systems Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Control Systems Engineer to lead and deliver cutting-edge automation and control solutions across the renewable energy and mining/resource sectors.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Control Systems Engineer to lead and deliver cutting-edge automation and control solutions across the renewable energy and mining/resource sectors from Perth. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and commissioning advanced automation systems that power sustainable energy infrastructure and industrial operations across Australia.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys solving complex engineering challenges.
In this role, you will:
Lead the design, development, and commissioning of advanced automation systems for industrial processes
Design and implement large SCADA systems – greenfield, upgrades and migrations, using all major SCADA application platforms
Design, develop and commission substation automation systems
Develop and maintain engineering automation tools using modern practices, including with Python, C# and virtualisation platforms and simulation tools
Programme and troubleshoot, PLCs, (Rockwell, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Emerson)
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mining clients, protection engineers and field operators.
Prepare clear and concise software and communications systems design diagrams and documentation
Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), site commissioning, and signal validation under tight project timelines.
Provide technical leadership, mentoring of junior engineers, and contribute to project planning and delivery.
Skills and Experience:
7+ years of experience in control systems project engineering, with a focus on energy, renewable power systems, or mining/resources.
Broad range of experience with control systems technologies and ability and desire to learn new systems and approaches quickly
Proven experience in large-scale SCADA system design and delivery for grid-connected renewable energy systems, substation automation or mining operations.
Excellent engineering documentation, fault-finding, and commissioning skills.
Strong communication and leadership abilities.
Familiarity with all and demonstrating experience in some of the following technologies:
Plant SCADA, including deep understanding of the internal architecture and subsystems
Ignition SCADA, including deep understanding of the internal architecture, subsystems, Perspective and SQL database design and provisioning for high-performance large-scale systems
Substation automation controllers (Eaton SMP platform, SEL RTAC, GE D20) and grid connected substation electrical and protection concepts
PLC programming (Schneider Electric, Allen-Bradley, Siemens) with proficiency infunction block and structured text
Industrial networking, including multiple vendor ring topologies, PRP, HSR, PTP, inter-network routing and familiarity modern cybersecurity requirements
Knowledge of Modbus/TCP, DNP3 SA, IEC-61850 MMS and OPC-UA protocols in redundant large-scale applications, with high-volume, high-sample-rate data requirements
Knowledge of AEMO compliance, grid connection and management concepts, and microgrid control concepts.
Proficiency in Python, C# or similar development platforms and knowledge of how to apply them for engineering and test automation and tool development.
Working knowledge of virtualisation platforms, including docker, Linux based hosting and cloud solutions
